Syrian War Daily – 13th of September 2017

Hello and welcome to the 210th instalment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Raqqa:

The Syrian Democratic Forces claimed to fully control Al-Thakana neighbourhood after ISIS retreated from its positions there.

Aleppo:

The Syrian government signed a contract with an Iranian company to build five gas-fired power plants to Aleppo city. This contract is one of the multiple future contracts between Teheran and Damascus in which Iran will rebuild a considerable part of Syria’s electric infrastructure. Other plans include the supply 540 megawatts of electricity to the coastal city of LAtakia, build some wind and solar plants, and to restore energy sources in Deir ez-Zor and Homs. Idlib:

An electrical failure in one of the generators provoked an explosion inside the Children’s Hospital in Al-Bailoun village in southern Idlib countryside.

Hama:

The Russian Military Police has been deployed in Taybet Al-Emam city in northern Hama. The Islamic State claims to have destroyed two government tanks north of Hamadah Omar village in east Hama countryside.

Homs:

Government forces capture Al-Khan and its surrounding hills, and also Unq al-Hawa, Luwaybidah and Darwishiyah.

 

Military situation in southern fronts of central Syria pocket as SAA advanced against ISIS as of 13th September 2017 – via @Syria_Hezb_Iran

 

Damascus:

Three heavy surface-to-surface missiles hit Jobar district in Eastern Ghouta pocket.

Deir ez-Zor:

The Major General of the Syrian Republican Guard Issam Zahreddine apologised after warning refugees to not return to government-held areas. The controversy started after Zahreddine said that government forces won’t forget nor forgive what they had done. He added he was referring to ISIS refugees and militants, not civilians fleeing war.

On the field, military operations were reported in Al-Jafra front in which the SAA successfully crossed the Euphrates river in a night operation. The operation managed to successfully establish fire control over the eastern bank of the Euphrates. Government forces are preparing for further advances. Although, these reports are controversial as there contradictory reports.

Russian pontoon bridges were brought to Deir ez-Zor and are being built in order to easily cross the Euphrates river in the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor. Furthermore, Russian warplanes carried out more than 50 airstrikes targeting the villages of the eastern side of Deir ez-Zor.

On the SDF continued its operations against ISIS at Abu Khashab neighbourhood in northern Deir ez-Zor area. In three days, the SDF captured 1.150 square km from ISIS, including towns, bi’rs, wadi’s, mountains, military bases, industrial zones and grain silos. Additionally, the SDF Kurd and Arab allies have entered Huseyniyah town on the east banks of Euphrates, and also get fire control over Jalanda village.

CJTF-OIR:

On the 12th of September 2017, CJTF-OIR has conducted 62 strikes in Syria. CJTF-OIR‘s main focus in Syria is Raqqa region where they did 56 strikes supporting SDF‘s operations against IS destroying 56 fighting positions, three logistics nodes, and two vehicles; and suppressed a fighting position.

Other areas where six strikes occurred are Abu Kamal and Deir ez-Zor destroying two fighting positions, two VBIED, two VBIED facilities and a logistics node. The full report on CJTF-OIR strikes conducted in both Syria & Iraq can be found here.
