Syrian War Daily – 27th of July 2016

Hello and welcome to the 165th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Raqqa: During combat today in Raqqa city, an ISIS emir was killed and several of its fighters buried after the detonation of a large tunnel. In the southern countryside, government forces kept advancing, taking control of the pumping station of Albu Hamad, al-Kharraz and the Rajm Suleiman farms.

Homs: After most recent advances, Syrian army troops are now roughly two km away from Suknah town. The Dabat Milli village in easter Homs was also captured.

E. Syria map peto (27.07.17)

Lebanon/Syria border: A ceasefire and evacuation deal came in effect this morning. The remaining HTS fighters will leave the pocket in Arsal towards Idlib in exchange for five Hezbollah prisoners. The FSA group Saraya ahl al-Sham will instead leave towards eastern Qalamoun.

Damascus: Several members of the 4th Division were confirmed killed during clashes with Faylaq al-Rahman in Jobar area. This army division recently moved from Daraa to the Damascus pocket.

Daraa/Suweida: The anti-IS coalition declared today that they will not support any groups not fighting ISIS exclusively and that they stopped support for the group Shuhada Qaryatayn.

CJTF-OIR:

On the 27th of July 2017 CJTF-OIR has conducted 18 strikes in Syria. CJTF-OIR‘s main focus in Syria at the moment is Raqqa region where they did 12 strikes, supporting SDF‘s operations against IS destroying vehicles, fighting positions, a control node and more.

Other strikes were carried out in Shaddadi, Abu Kamal and Deir ez-Zor. Full report on CJTF-OIR strikes conducted in both Syria & Iraq can be found here.
